GCSE Resit Support for Post-16 Students
Each year, over 150,000 post-16 students resit GCSE English and/or Maths in England.
Maths: in 2024, 17.4 % of post‑16 students achieved a grade 4 or above—a slight increase from 16.4 % in 2023, but still well below pre-pandemic levels (21.2 %)
English Language: in 2024, only 20.9 % passed, a significant drop from 25.9 % in 2023 and down nearly 10 percentage points since 2019
This means over 80% of post‑16 resit students still did not reach a grade 4 in either subject, underlining the critical need for effective, targeted support.
Colleges looking to support GCSE resit learners with structured, proven support can partner with the Tutor Trust to boost outcomes and close the attainment gap.
