Our AI policy

We love technology, and we know AI can be a brilliant tool for studying and brainstorming. But when it comes to your interview with us, we have a strict policy. The use of AI during your interview is not permitted. This includes AI-generated responses, virtual assistants, real-time transcription tools, interview co-pilots, and automated scripts.

Remember: Your best asset is you. Please don’t worry about giving a flawless, robotic performance. We value reflection, authenticity, and real human connection far more than a scripted answer. We want to understand your motivation and your thinking. We want to hear from you, not a tool.

Here is why this rule matters so much to us, to our schools, and to the pupils we support:

The heart of tutoring is human connection

Tutoring is about more than delivering information. It is about empathy, building trust, and noticing when a pupil looks confused or discouraged. An AI can output a perfect textbook answer, but it cannot show us your unique personality, your warmth, or your genuine passion for helping a young person succeed.

We want to see the real you

When you are in a classroom setting, you won't have an AI copilot. It will be your voice, your energy, and your patience that inspires your pupils. For us to properly assess whether you are the right person to work with young people, we need to see the real you from day one.

Protecting our pupils and our schools

As an educational charity, we hold a deep responsibility to the schools and vulnerable young people we serve. Integrity and trust are at the centre of everything we do.

Protecting our data

Our interview content is confidential, and running our scenarios or questions through third-party AI services is a breach of that confidentiality. Knowing how to handle data safely and respect privacy is a core requirement for becoming a tutor with us.

Accessibility and support

This policy does not apply to legitimate assistive technologies. If you use tools such as screen readers, speech-to-text software for hearing impairments, or other accessibility tools, you are absolutely welcome to use them. If you use assistive technology and have any concerns about how this policy applies to you, please contact us before your interview at recruitment@thetutortrust.org. We will make sure you are fully supported.
