Prospective tutors
For prospective tutors requiring a reference to become a tutor, we require a minimum of two references:
1. Character reference: This should be from someone who knows you outside of a work or academic setting and can speak about your personal qualities, integrity, and suitability for working with young people. This could be a community group leader, a sports coach, a religious leader, a youth worker; they can be a volunteer in these settings, but must be a recognised role.
2. Professional reference: This can be academic (for example, a teacher or a tutor at university or college) or from an
employer. It should focus on your skills and work ethic in those settings.
To ensure impartiality, neither referee can be a relative or a friend, and you must have known each for at least six months.
Our expectations
We at Tutor Trust pride ourselves on having a high-quality service to our schools, colleges, and young people. As a tutor, we expect you will be punctual, consistent and reliable, prepared, committed and professional at all times.
If it comes to the attention of Tutor Trust that these standards are not being met, you may be removed from the assignment and/or our Tutor Trust database. This may also affect any future reference you receive from Tutor Trust.
We reserve the right for pay to be deducted from tutors who do not arrive on time and persistent offenders will be removed from tuition assignments.

- Professional
Existing tutors
For existing tutors who have left us and would like a reference for their time as a tutor, we are happy to provide a reference if you have delivered a minimum of 25 hours of tuition within a single academic year.
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide references for tutors who have delivered less than 25 hours of tuition. This policy helps us ensure that any reference we provide is based on sufficient and meaningful engagement.
Reference requests for tutors that have left or thinking of leaving should be sent to the recruitment team.
