Registers and pay

Getting paid

You will earn a minimum of £20 to plan and deliver a one-hour tuition session (please note that the rate may vary for specific projects – this will be clarified in the assignment notes). This includes planning, preparation, and record-keeping, as well as the time working directly with pupils. If a tuition session is longer or shorter than one hour, the rate of pay will be adjusted accordingly. Payment is made monthly in arrears, on the 15th of the month (or the previous Friday, if the 15th falls on a weekend or bank holiday) based on the days worked in the previous calendar month. For example, on 15 November 2026, you will be paid for all completed tuition sessions in October 2026.
Registers and feedback

You will only be paid for sessions where you have completed registers. All registers should be completed within 48 hours of a tuition session taking place.

You are expected to register pupils' attendance and give feedback about every session you deliver. This is because it is important to communicate information about pupils' progress to your coordinator and the school/college. Feedback is visible to the school/college, which is why you are given support during training to ensure it is appropriate in tone and content.

It is vital for us that you complete the feedback portion of your register in detail, as we use registers to evaluate the quality and impact of the work our tutors carry out. Important points to include are: the Learning Objective and how well it was met; behaviour; attitude and barriers to learning; and the names of any unexpected pupils and absentees (with reason, if known).

Contact your Programme Coordinator if you are asked to deliver additional hours of tutoring by the school/college which have not been agreed with your coordinator

  • Your session is cancelled in advance by the school/college, so they can remove the register
  • There are any changes to pupil groupings, including new pupils, or if a pupil is withdrawn from the tuition programme
  • You are unable to view or complete your registers

You will only be paid for sessions where you have completed the registers on the Hub. All registers should be completed within 48 hours of a tuition session taking place to ensure that feedback can be provided to the school/college as soon as possible after the sessions. Please be aware that for payment purposes, if registers are not completed with sufficient time for your coordinator to approve them for payment (their deadline is the 10th of the following month), your payment may be delayed by a month. For example, if you complete a register on 10th November for a session which took place in October, you may not be paid until December.

Bank details

Payment will be made directly to your nominated bank account. You need to input your bank details on the Tutor Hub before your first payment is due. If you do not provide us with your bank details at least a week before you are first due to be paid, you may not be paid until the following month. If you change your bank details, you must update them on the Hub immediately. Please also email us at the Tutor Trust office to let us know you've made a change, but there is no need for you to send your bank details to us by email.

Pupil thinking

Remember

Payment is dependent on you completing the Registers on the Hub AND keeping your details up to date on the Tutor Hub.
Cancelled tuition

Tutor Trust will pay you in full for all sessions that are cancelled by the school/college less than 24 hours before the start time. This policy will only apply to face-to-face sessions.

You must advise us as soon as possible if there are any changes to hours, days, or the number of young people within the tuition you are delivering. You should contact your Programme Coordinator directly, either by phone or email with the details.  This ensures we always comply with our safeguarding policy.

Incorrect pay

If you believe that you have been incorrectly paid, please provide your Programme Coordinator at the Tutor Trust with the following information:

  • Actual pay (how much you were paid)
  • Expected pay (how much you think you should have been paid)
  • Schools/colleges you worked at
  • The hours you carried out at every school/college (and the date)
  • The rate and pay of those hours.

Programme Coordinators will then be able to check this information with their records.

Submitting attendance registers

You are expected to register pupils’ attendance and give feedback about every session you deliver within 48 hours of the session taking place. Remember to also mark yourself as present! You can find your registers on the Tutor Hub for every session you deliver, even if you are providing one-off cover for another tutor.

 Contact your Programme Coordinator if:

  • You are asked to deliver additional hours of tutoring by the school/college which haven’t been agreed with your coordinator,
  • Your session is cancelled in advance by the school/college so they can remove the register,
  • There are any changes to pupil groupings, including new pupils, or if a pupil is withdrawn from the tuition programme,
  • You are unable to view or complete your registers.

Remember

Registers are linked to pay, and we expect you to complete your register as soon as possible after a tuition session. Ideally, this will be the same day - but no later than 48 hours - to ensure that your pay is correct. If your registers are not kept up to date, then your pay may be delayed, and we may remove you from assignments.
