Safeguarding

This article outlines how you should behave when delivering tuition, and provides information on how to report a concern that you may have about a pupil, fellow tutor or staff member.

If you’re working in a school or college, there may be additional policies and procedures that you will need to adhere to on top of this. Your Coordinator will ask about this at the Introductory Meeting, or you may be given the information when you first arrive at the school. If in doubt, don’t be afraid to ask!

What do I do if I have concerns about a young person?

The process you should follow for reporting a Safeguarding concern is the same, no matter the age of the young person:

  • Report the issue as soon as practically possible to the school/college’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) before you leave the school/college premises, and
  • Report the issue the same day to the Tutor Trust’s Safeguarding team, and
  • Record in your session feedback that you had a safeguarding concern but do not give details there.

Contact details for the DSL and Deputy DSLs can be found here. For our policy and resource documents, please click on the links below:

Remember

It is a legal obligation to share information with the appropriate member of staff at your school/college. Everybody is responsible for safeguarding, and your role is to pass the information along to those school/college staff who are trained to deal with it.
