Training
Our training focuses on ensuring you understand the essential elements of high-quality tuition to help you feel confident to plan and deliver impactful tuition to the pupils you work with. All tutors receive extensive training led by our experienced team of trainers who are all qualified teachers.
Throughout training, our team is available to support you and we have a dedicated email address for any queries related to training. Please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Core Training
Core Training is for new tutors and consists of 1 online course made up of 4 modules (“Blocks”) on our learning platform, Thinqi, and 3 live sessions held on Zoom. Woven throughout Core Training are a set of Checkpoints designed to evaluate tutor understanding of the training materials and our values and competencies. You will also complete 2 lesson planning tasks: one before the Block 2 Live Session and one before the Block 3 Live session.
Transfer training
Initially, all tutors are trained to specialise in one subject. However, we realise that many of our tutors have the necessary qualifications to deliver multiple subjects. As a result, we provide opportunities throughout the year for tutors with the necessary qualifications to complete Transfer Training. This training allows tutors to provide tuition across multiple subjects and/or age ranges.
You will be notified via email about opportunities for transfer training throughout the academic year and you can get in touch with the training team as well as the Tutor Engagement and Support Manager to enquire about this if you wish.

Additional training
Some of our assignments require additional compulsory training to equip you with the essential skills to deliver tuition in certain contexts. These include (but are not limited to):
- Post-16
- Phonics
- Axiom Maths
- King’s Trust
- Online Tutoring
This training may take place online, in-person or at the school/college where you will be working. If you are accepted to work on one of these assignments, your Programme Coordinator will be in touch with more details about your additional training.
Returning tutor training
Returning Tutor Training is compulsory for any tutors who wish to tutor in the years following the academic year when they completed their initial Core Training. It is updated over summer for the September of each year with new strategies, guidance and processes; therefore, it is mandatory for tutors to complete it before applying for any work.
Safeguarding training is also updated every year in light of changes to Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSiE) which means it remains compulsory for any tutor to complete a Child Protection Refresher and two modules on Keeping Children Safe in Education as part of their Returning Tutor Training. This training is delivered via an external provider, Educare. Alongside this, tutors must complete The Prevent Duty every 2 years.
Our tutor training team will get in touch with you about your Returning Tutor Training and any modules you need to complete.
For any questions about Returning Tutor Training, get in touch with our Tutor Engagement and Support Manager.
