One-to-one support

Our Tutor Engagement and Support Manager, Ellie, offers one-to-one (1:1) meetings with tutors throughout the year. You can book a time that works for you to meet virtually with Ellie to discuss any problems you may have with tuition or anything else relating to your work with Tutor Trust. Having been a tutor previously, Ellie is happy to offer guidance or advice to new tutors who are getting started and may feel nervous about their first session. She is also available for returning tutors who may have some problems with finding new resources or regaining confidence after some time away. Sometimes a chat over a cup of tea is needed to feel better, and happy tutors make happy students!

Meet Ellie

Our Tutor Engagement and Support Manager, Ellie, is here to answer your questions, provide guidance, or simply have a friendly conversation about tutoring. Schedule a one-to-one appointment with her or join her at a Drop-In Session for informal chats with other tutors. No question is too small, and Ellie is always happy to help in any way she can!

Peer mentoring

The Peer Mentoring Programme is a wonderful opportunity to meet and work with an existing Advanced Tutor, who will support you. The aim is to build on the skills you have learnt in training and to make you feel more confident as a tutor. You choose the areas to focus on and your mentor supports you by providing feedback on your planning, sharing useful resources, planning together and giving you useful hints and tips from their own experience. You will develop targets which are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-related (SMART) so you can address your areas for development and review them during subsequent meetings. The programme is flexible, and the meetings can be arranged around your schedule to suit you. They can take place in-person or online: you and your peer mentor can decide what works for you both. The programme is supportive, non-judgmental, and tailored specifically at the areas you need to develop further so that you can become more confident with tutoring.

Tutor support pathway

If your lesson is observed and is below our expected standard, you will have access to our Tutor Support Pathway (TSP) and meet 1:1 with our Coaching Quality Manager who has experience of coaching other professionals in an educational context to help them develop.

You will be coached through the reflective cycle, giving you the time and support to reflect on your lesson observation feedback and identify your ways forward. This support will take place over 2-6 sessions, giving you time to try out different strategies and discover what works for you.

We're here to help you improve and reach our expected standard; it's important that you engage with the support we offer. For this reason, whilst you are on the Tutor Support Pathway, you cannot take on any new assignments. Once you feel confident that your tutoring reaches our standard, a member of the Quality Team will come and re-observe you to assess your progress. Once you're back on track, you'll be able to bid for new assignments.
