Learning and development

Learning and development

We want to support you with your professional development to further improve the quality of tuition and to help you with career progression. Our learning and development events – both in-person and online – are organised at regular times throughout the year. We encourage all tutors to attend our free learning and development events to develop your skills and knowledge.

You can sign up for any of these free events on the events page.

Information on upcoming events is also shared monthly in our Tutor News email, and can be viewed on our learning and development opportunities calendar.

Engagement events

Engagement events are led by our Tutor Engagement and Support Manager and there are a mixture of online and in-person events. These include, but are not limited to, welcome events, coffee and chat, paint and sip and our infamous Tutor Awards

Development sessions

Development sessions are led by our experienced team of Quality Managers and trainers, sometimes in partnership with other organisations (e.g., Place2Be, TeachFirst, The University of Manchester). They are designed to develop your skills and give you new strategies to use in your tuition sessions. These events include but are not limited to coaching & mentoring, ChatGPT for educators, LinkedIn Launchpad and GCSE and SATs revision sessions

Lead tutors

Existing tutors may be offered the opportunity to become one of our Lead Tutors who act as the main contact within a school/college where there are large assignments and therefore need to communicate clearly and professionally with other tutors and the Programme Coordinator.

Lead Tutors are offered an additional financial incentive for completing tasks which may differ between tuition assignments. They could be responsible for organising in-school/college attendance sheets, helping to ensure all groupings are allocated correctly, collating, and sending weekly Vedamo links for online assignments, or any other tasks that would help the assignment run smoothly. Their top priority is maintaining an open dialogue with the Programme Coordinator, so they are aware of what is occurring in school/college.

Outreach team

As well as tutoring, we provide additional opportunities to join our Outreach Team. This team is a collective of university student tutors who help our charity with outreach, insights, and engagement with our multiple partner universities. As an Outreach Team member, you would be paid to do a range of work including attending careers fairs, networking with your university network, creating digital content, and providing insights and feedback for our Recruitment Team.

Our Recruitment Team manages the Outreach Team initiative; for any questions or if you would like additional information, please contact us. We will communicate future opportunities to join the team (normally around September and January).
